Kaelin Murphy is an improvising trumpet player from Owen Sound, Ontario. He currently lives in Toronto, studying jazz performance at the University of Toronto, while remaining an active musician playing in many different styles ranging from straight ahead jazz, to hip hop, to contemporary and free improvised music. He is also a graduate of the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, the School of Improvisational Music(Brooklyn, NY), and alumnus of the Ottawa Youth Jazz Summit. He has had the opportunity to work and study with musicians such as Vijay Iyer, Tyshawn Sorey, Mark Shim, Jen Shyu, Ralph Alessi, Andy Milne, Tim Berne, Jim Lewis, Chase Sanborn, Andrew Downing, among others Kaelin has also been touring across North America with brassfunk band My Son The Hurricane, and continues to perform and record in and around Toronto with various groups as both a leader and sideman.
