This year’s Sweetwater Festival showcases the outstanding work of musicians Adrian Butterfield, Edwin Huizinga, Rachel Brown, Myron Lutzke, Steven Dann, Drew Jurecka, and Nadina Mackie Jackson, among others. They join Mark Fewer in performing several sonatas by Biber, Quantz, Leclair, and Vivaldi; the Concerto for flute, two violins and continuo by Telemann; and Bach’s complete Cello Suites. A new initiative will be Saturday morning’s “Mozart for Munchkins,” in which Mark Fewer and Kati Gleiser will tap into tots’ love of appealing music.
The highlight of the festival will be Bach’s Mass in B minor, which also serves as the centerpiece of this year’s “Classical Jam” session. Kenneth Slowik, Artistic Director of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, will be on hand to shepherd this unique ensemble of musicians and vocalists.
