SweetWater Receives Three-Year Funding Commitment from Canadian Heritage
April 1, 2017
The SweetWater Music Festival has received a three-year commitment of $30,000 from the Government of Canada’s Canadian Heritage Department through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund.
“The three-year funding commitment for SweetWater from Canadian Heritage is a vote of confidence for the organization and its artistic contributions to the community” says Board Chair Colleen Purdon. “ It provides SweetWater with some funding security in a very competitive environment. We have appreciated annual support from Canadian Heritage the past few years. With three years of funding, we can plan for the future.”
The annual funding of $10,000 annually supports artistic programming for SweetWater’s three-day Festival in September and programming throughout the year.
“This funding is an important financial ‘anchor’ for the Festival going forward,” adds Lynda Montgomery, Board Member and member of SweetWater’s Fundraising Marketing Committee. “and along with sponsorships, community donations, ticket revenues and other grants it makes it possible for SweetWater to bring world-class musicians to our region.”
The SweetWater Music Festival is a popular annual arts event locally and attracts audiences from throughout Ontario and beyond. SweetWater continues to be guided by Artistic Director Mark Fewer, who founded the Festival in 2004.
SweetWater Music Festival is a showcase for Canadian musicians and composers. For the 14th edition Sept. 15-17, 2017, the Canadian component will be the main focus to mark Canada's 150th anniversary. 2017 programming will be dedicated to Canadian music and composers. The highlight will be a special Saturday night double-header concert. The early evening concert at the Roxy Theatre will focus on classical works by contemporary Canadian composers. The second concert, at the Heartwood Hall will be a night of original Canadian jazz.
The Festival will feature many of Canada's top musicians including Russell Braun, James Campbell, Guy Few, Drew Jurecka, and many others, as well as local musicians and luthiers.
