New Board Members Elected During SweetWater 2017 Annual General Meeting

The SweetWater Music Festival Annual General Meeting took place on Thursday,March 16 at the Harmony Centre in Owen Sound. Along with electing Board Members for the coming year, changes to the SweetWater Constitution were approved and updates about the past year were provided.

 

Colleen Purdon returns as Board ChairBob Scheifele, who joined the Board earlier in the year, will be Treasurer. Following her first year on the Board, Shawna Macivor is now Secretary. Returning to the Board are Marion McDougall and Sydney  Misener as Directors-at-large. Joining the Board are Lynda Montgomery and Jackie Mersich both as as Directors-at-large. The Chair will recruit one additional director over the next couple of months.

 

Chair Colleen Purdon made a point of recognizing the longtime contributions of outgoing Past Chair Ewan Porter as well as former Board Member and past chair Andrew Baines (who left the Board in December). 

 

"They have both provided many years of effective leadership and support for SweetWater and they have been generous with their time and support as I learned the ropes as Chair," added Colleen who also thanked outgoing Treasurer Karen Marcell for managing the finances over the past two years. 

 

In her Chair's Report, Colleen emphasized 2016 was a very good year for SweetWater.

 

"In 2016 we welcomed more people to the fall Festival, and we had an increase in donations and support from sponsors. We were able to raise the profile of SweetWater and reach out through social media and special concerts during the year." 

 

Artistic Director Mark Fewer was unable to attend but in a written report thanked everyone who made SweetWater a success this past year and noted how much the performers at SweetWater 2016 enjoyed the experience. 

 

"Since the festival’s close, many artists have sent emails expressing their fondness for the event both in terms of the music made and the goodwill of the artists assembled."

 

Once again this year updates were made to the SweetWater Constitution to better reflect the current structure and organization now in place. Much of the original document dates back to 2007. The entire updated Constitution is now posted on our web site,  SweetWater Constitution

 

The meeting also included reports about the past year’s activities from Festival Manager Paul Eichhorn, a financial report from the Treasurer, and updates from SweetWater committees including Education Outreach and Hospitality.
