Emerging, Aspiring Musicians Performing at SweetWater Next Wave Showcase
May 22, 2019
The SweetWater Music Festival is providing local audiences with an entirely new concert experience in June. The first-ever SweetWater Next Wave Showcase will take place on Sunday, June 2 at the Historic Leith Church at 2 p.m. (admission by donation).
SweetWater is billing this as “Discover Tomorrow’s Music Talents Today”. The afternoon concert features nine performers from Grey Bruce and elsewhere in Ontario performing classical and contemporary chamber music works. Many will be performing classical works by composers often heard at SweetWater’s September Festival such as Brahms, Handel, Bach, Chopin, and Ravel.
The performers were all adjudicated in advance by SweetWater Artistic Director Mark Fewer. Along with five pianists (Adrian Little, Olivia Adams, Anna Perrone and piano duo Busch & Adams), there are two vocalists (Cydney Morris, Vanessa Bosman), a cellist (Jeffrey Paik), a clarinetist (Emily Weaver), and a flutist (Suwan Yu). Many are Kiwanis Music Festival provincial finalists and others have already made waves on the university music scene and beyond.
Festival Manager Paul Eichhorn adds if this year’s concert works out as planned, future Showcase concerts may provide a springboard for some young talents to perform at the main Festival event in September.
“It’s quite amazing to hear the talent of many of these younger musicians. We’re hoping this new concert format will provide them with the boost they need to reach the next level in their music careers. “
The SweetWater Next Wave Showcase is supported in part by Community Foundation Grey Bruce and The Leflar Foundation.
