Other Festivals

Just finished at the Toronto Summer Music Festival (TSMF) for another year. Artistic Director Douglas McNabney (a SweetWater alumni) has yet again raised the bar for music in the summer in Toronto. Kudos to him and the terrific job he and his amazing team have put together.

Of the many things I enjoy about TSMF, the spaces used for performance are ideal acoustically. Performers and audiences can’t take that for granted. (There are a lot of bad acoustic spaces out there!) Like TSMF, SweetWater folk like to boast about the acoustic marvels of Leith Church, and more recently, Georgian Shores United Church. And for good reason!! For anyone who knows either, they are magnificent spaces to listen to music in. Why? Because the nature of the sound produced in these spaces allows the listener to absorb music, not just strain with the brain to hear something. For this writer, music is felt just as much as it is heard.

SweetWater’s 10th Anniversary – 10 years of feelings through sound.
